Musicians' Company Ltd.
Musicians' Movement is a limited company focused on implementing vital change within our industry's infrastructure.
Questions:
Are we a charity?
The Musicians' Movement is not a charity for very good reasons: charities are subject to a huge regulatory burden compared to Ltd. companies and strict rules when it comes to campaigning. MM needs to be able to campaign and often our efforts will be mostly dedicated to this sort of activity. We therefore have chosen a structure in line with other organisations of a similar nature. Our structure also allows future investment in services intended to directly address issues that affect our sector.
For more information on how The Lobbying Act effects charities please see the excellent study undertaken on this subject by SMK: https://smk.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/SMK_The_Chilling_Reality_Lobbying_Act_Research.pdf
Are Donations eligible for GiftAid?
Donations are not eligible for GiftAid unfortunately, though they are still very much appreciated and at present (12th August, 2020) form the majority of our revenue.
How is the money spent?
Phil Meadows and Christopher Barrett have waived any salary for six months. This will be revisited in February of 2021.
Revenue is used in the following ways:
- Directly supporting the work of MM Ltd. including our campaigns and lobbying, in addition to services aimed at directly addressing problems faced by musicians across the country.
- Covering running costs including taxes, regulatory compliance, accounting, websites, email, volunteer expenses, legal advice, etc.
- Short and long-term reserves.
